Best Birth Control – Acne and Me

I had acne from about age 18 up to about 6 months ago, so believe me I know it is extremely demotivational, to say the least. When I turned 22 I bought myself some birth control just to be on the safe side. I went to my doctor first to see if I was healthy enough to qualify for taking birth control, just to be on the safe side (again). After I was approved I began shopping around to see which birth control would be the best for me. The first product I tried was Yasmin. I can tell you right now to stay away from Yasmin, it gave me cramps, headaches, and worst of all it made my acne 10 times worse than it already was.
Next I tried Ortho Tri-Cyclen. This is the best birth control, acne wise, that I have used to date. I used Ortho Tri-Cyclen for about 6 months (and had clear skin), then I switched to Desogen generic for a few months (I don’t know why). My acne immediately came back as soon as I started on Desogen, so I switched back to Ortho Tri-Cyclen. I have used Ortho Tri-Cyclen off and on for the past 3 years and I have yet to experience a single major breakout.

I would recommend that you use Ortho Tri-Cyclen birth control (-low dosage-) initially, just until the Clear For Life program starts to kick into gear for you (if you decide to go that route – I recommend it because it worked wonders for me). Your doctor will explain to you more in detail the possibility of taking ethinyl estradiol and norgetsimate, or Ortho Tri-Cyclen birth control. This is a specific combination of female hormones targeted to prevent pregnancy. This contraceptive works not only by preventing ovulation, but it also creates changes in the cervical mucus and the uterine lining. These changes essentially make it more difficult for sperm to reach an egg and also, should an egg be fertilized, it would most likely not be able to attach to the uterine lining. This medication will up your risk of blood clots, stroke and heart attack if you smoke and/or if you’re older than thirty five. It is a frustrating thing to battle, especially when you thought it was supposed to be over already. For years now, doctors have been prescribing oral contraceptives as a means of acne treatment. However, it is hard to determine which one would be the best birth control, acne wise. It hasn’t been long since the FDA approved a few oral contraceptives like Ortho Tri-Cyclen, YAZ, and Estrostep for acne treatment.
Usually, birth control is prescribed for acne only after other treatments have been tried. Even the best birth control for acne wouldn’t be the first choice your doctor would suggest for you if you haven’t tried anything else yet. Birth control is sort of a last resort if all you’re looking to fix is the quality of your skin.
